Accessibility Info for Our Patrons

The following policy and services are part of the Capitol Theatre’s initiatives to meet the compliance standards of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (2005), and to serve the diverse needs of our patrons.

The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility.  We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration.

General Assistance

If you require accessibility assistance, one of the Capitol’s uniformed volunteers will be happy to happy to help you. When attending performances, we recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to showtime.

Accessible Parking

A handicapped parking space is available immediately adjacent to the patron loading and unloading area in front of the theatre.  Individuals with disabilities may also be dropped off and picked up in front of the theatre.

Other on street parking may be appropriate for individuals with disabilities depending on availability.

Wheelchair and Low Mobility Theatre Access

The Capitol’s main stage and Sculthorpe theatre are both wheelchair accessible and accessible for those with low mobility.   The main theatre has grade level access to the front of the theatre, and a wheelchair lift to the back of the theatre. The Sculthorpe theatre has elevator access to the second floor.

Wheelchair Seating Area and Stair-Free Seats

Our main stage has a number of wheelchair spaces available. Please call our Box Office at 905-885-1071 to reserve tickets for those individuals in wheelchairs and other group members. Those individuals that require walker must arrange special seating with our box office or for one of the Capitol’s uniformed volunteers to set aside their assistive devices during performances. No walkers or other assistive devices may be left in theatre aisles due to fire regulations.  Please note that a limited number of main theatre seating located at the back of the theatre (furthest from the stage), requires steps to access.  Please contact our Box Office if you require further assistance.

The Sculthorpe theatre is a flat floor space with loose seating suitable for wheelchairs.

Hearing Assistance Devices

The Capitol has a limited number of assistive listening devices for some of our performances. These are available on a first come, first served basis. Please note that not all performances offer this service. So please check with our Box Office at 905-885-1071 for more information.  Assistive listening devices are available prior to performances from our uniformed volunteers.

Service Animals

Guide dogs and other service animals are welcome at the Capitol Theatre as per Ontario law. We recommend contacting our box office at 905-885-1071 to select the best seating for both service animal and owner.

Washroom Accessibility

Washrooms at the Capitol are wheelchair accessible.

Website Accessibility

This website offers a number of features to increase accessibility for those with visual impairment. These features include WGAG 2.0 compliance with a high-contrast mode, font-size selection and descriptive titles for links and media for those using screen readers.
