Let's Celebrate "Made in Canada" Programming!
Over the past four years, we’ve gone out of our way to ensure that we’re working with exclusively Canadian artists from across the country—bringing the best of Canada to Northumberland County. This summer season marks a particularly exciting new venture: the World Premiere of Rez Gas, an Indigenous musical by locals Cale Crowe & Genevieve Adam, developed through the Capitol Creators’ Unit.
Since 2022, we’ve been investing in the creation of new stories for our stage from local and regional artists. Since that year, our annual panto has been a brand-new commissioned work from a Canadian playwright exclusively for audiences at the Capitol. In 2023, we launched the annual Creators’ Unit—a group of artists who meet regularly to develop new work for the Capitol stage, culminating in our annual Playreading Week each fall. It is in that program that Rez Gas was born.
There has never been a better time to invest in new Canadian work from Canadian artists. We’re proud to share that success at this year’s gala and raise money that will directly support our creation initiatives. At this year’s gala, you’ll get the glitz and glamour that you’ve come to expect from the Capitol, alongside the knowledge that you are supporting the artists in our community (and our country) to tell our stories on stage.
Join us first for a building-wide cocktail reception, celebrating the 11 productions of our largest season ever. Then we’ll gather in the Rod Stewart & Masumi Suzuki Atmospheric Theatre to enjoy top notch live entertainment, including a live auction with our dynamic host Layne, music by Lakefield’s Royal Wood, and some special surprises.
